While many know him as the co-writer of Ring of Fire (with June Carter), which became one of Johnny Cash’s biggest hits, his impact on country music runs much deeper. Kilgore got his start as a teenage gofer for Hank Williams and went on to become a successful songwriter, penning hits like Wolverton Mountain for Claude King and Johnny Reb for Johnny Horton.
