The species name, strigoides, means owl-like because this bird is not an owl! This is a tawny frogmouth (Podargus strigoides) and it’s actually part of the #nightjar family! Tawny frogmouths are medium-sized nocturnal/crepuscular birds that get their name from their huge “frog-like” beaks that are used to capture insects.
