After India gained independence, the palace was renamed as the Rashtrapati Bhavan, meaning the Presidential Palace. Its reinforced concrete chajja (sun shade) is a continuously supported cantilever cast-in-place slab. Floral patterns are shown at the bottom by the thick part of the slab near the support.
