The Akhilesh Yadav-led opposition party keep Sishamau and Karhal under its fold, but loses Kundarki and Katehari to BJP.

The BJP was leading in four seats while the Samajwadi Party was ahead in two of the nine Assembly seats for which bypolls were held, according to Election Commission trends on Saturday (November 23, 2024).

The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) won seven of the nine assembly seats for which the bypolls were held on November 20. The NDA not only improved its tally over 2022, but also snatched seats like Kundarki and Katehari from the SP, besides increasing the winning margins on some and narrowing down the defeat gap on some others.

The Bharatiya Janata Party is leading in six of nine Uttar Pradesh Assembly seats for which bypolls were held this week, as Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reasserts control over the state that is at the core of the BJP's Hindi voter base.

Besides Kundarki and Katehari, the Samajwadi Party was also defeated in five other seats -- Meerapur, Majhawan, Ghaziabad, Khair and Phulpur.

As expected, the BJP clinched 7 of the 9 assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday where by-elections were held on November 20.

In UP's Kundarki Assembly seat, Ramveer Thakur is on course to create history. The BJP candidate is the lone Hindu from a Muslim-dominated area and is leading 11 other Muslim candidates with around a lakh votes.

The ruling BJP is leading in seven out of nine assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh whereas the Samajwadi Party had retained the Sisamau seat in Kanpur and was leading in Karhal seat in Mainpuri.
