Five people were shot — three of them fatally — at an annual carnival outside Salt Lake City, Utah, authorities said. One of those killed was an infant, police said.

Utah Gov. Spencer Cox, a Republican, called the shooting "a deeply troubling act of violence that has no place in our public square."

“Our victim was not the intended target, but rather an innocent bystander participating in the demonstration,” Salt Lake City Police Chief Brian Redd said in a press conference on Sunday.
