The TSMC Arizona factory has started producing Apple's A16 Bionic chips, which are the processors in the iPhone 14 Pro and 15.

Apple's A16 chips are now being manufactured on American soil at TSMC's Arizona plant, according to Taiwan-based independent journalist

Independent tech journalist Tim Culpan reports that Apple is now in early production of A16 chips at TSMC’s new Arizona plant. The A16 is manufactured on an advanced 5nm process (some call it 4nm) that TSMC calls N4P.

Way back in 2022, Apple CEO Tim Cook stood next to President Biden at TSMC's new fab in Arizona and proclaimed the company would be first in line for the chips rolling off the manufacturing line in a few years.

The big mystery, however, is why Apple would want to make new A16 chips. Which new product might use them … ? TSMC’s first Arizona chips are now in production, and Apple is ready to be the first cab off the rank with mobile processors made using the foundry’s 5nm process.
