It’s estimated that around 177,000 vehicles are potentially affected, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). However, Volkswagen estimated that only 1% of the 177,493 vehicles have the defect that can lead to an engine fire.

Following an update for 2024, the Volkswagen Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport increased their sales by more than 22 percent in Canada last year. Those who’ve bought one now have to deal with yet another safety recall announced by the automaker.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said that if the engine cover does touch a hot surface it could melt and cause a fire. The recall affects some 2024 and 2025 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport vehicles.
