KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP) — Three family members died after a tree struck their vehicle in Michigan as powerful storms swept across the region, authorities said, and more potentially dangerous weather was forecast Monday across parts of the Southeast.
The Gaylord NWS office, located 9 miles south of the city, broke its record at 149.5 inches of snowfall during the December 2024-February 2025 winter. The previous record was 149 inches during the 2016-17 winter, the weather agency said.
I&M said the hardest hit areas were South Bend and Elkhart in Indiana as well as Buchanan and Three Rivers in Michigan. NIPSCO said its hardest hit areas were Chesterton, Elkhart, Hebron, La Porte, Michigan City, Plymouth and Valparaiso.

The Upper Peninsula is going to have a snowstorm. Some of the newest data shows cold air slipping into northwest Lower Michigan a few hours faster. This shift could bring more meaningful snow rates into the northwest corner of Lower Michigan.
