Michael Andretti sees that his chances for an F1 entry have increased following a restructuring, with Dan Towriss now leading the GM-backed team.

A spokesperson for F1 declined to comment when approached by Mirror Sport, though it is understood talks have progressed between chiefs and the Andretti-Cadillac project

A General Motors-backed bid to enter Formula One as an 11th team in 2026 is now looking more likely to succeed after being previously rejected, multiple sources said on Friday.

Formula One is reportedly in talks with General Motors about an 11th team joining the grid in 2026. F1 rejected Andretti’s bid in partnership with GM earlier this year, but did state a new offer for 2028 would be considered.

With a restructuring at Andretti Global that pushed Michael Andretti into a smaller role, the chances of his organization landing a Formula 1 team have substantially increased. So much so that F1 and Formula One Management could have a decision to grant the General Motors-backed entry a spot as the 11th team on the grid in the coming weeks.

Andretti could not get approval from F1 to enter. But the situation changed in September when he reduced his role with his namesake organization.

Momentum has reportedly shifted in the GM / Andretti team's favor, nearly a year after the initial rejection of the team's plan to join as an 11th F1 team.
