Ricciardo was handed a second chance in F1 – after being dismissed by McLaren in 2022 – by his old team in Red Bull as a test driver in 2023 before he replaced De Vries. Matt Chapman's extension is a start, but this team will need to shake some things up if it wants to get back to contending.

After losing his McLaren seat at the end of 2022, eight-time grand prix winner Ricciardo returned to F1 midway through 2023 with Red Bull’s sister team, AlphaTauri, now known as RB. He quickly set his sights on returning to the senior Red Bull team, where he raced between 2014 and 2018.

Daniel Ricciardo has not ruled out the possibility that this weekend’s Singapore Grand Prix could be his last in Formula 1, as RB prepares to make a decision about his future. RB—the second team owned by Red Bull— has already confirmed Yuki Tsunoda for 2025, but Ricciardo faces competition from test and reserve driver Liam Lawson.
