Four Italian soldiers were lightly wounded amid clashes between Hezbollah and Israeli forces in southern Lebanon.

The Italian soldiers were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (Unifil) base in Shama, south-west Lebanon, was struck by two 122mm rockets, the agency said in a statement. Unifil said the rockets were likely launched by Hezbollah or affiliates of the armed group.

The U.N. mission known as UNIFIL is stationed in southern Lebanon to monitor hostilities along the demarcation line with Israel -- an area that has seen fierce clashes this month between Israeli troops and Iran-backed Hezbollah fighters.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni described the attack as 'unacceptable' and expressed sympathy for the officers and their families.View on euronews

FOUR ITALIAN PEACEKEEPERS have been injured in what the United Nations has described as a suspected Hezbollah rocket incident at their base in South Lebanon. UNIFIL has said that the location of the incident is the Sector West Headquarters in Shama.
