Indiana’s population is now estimated to be at 6.92 million people, with nearly 45,000 new residents calling the Hoosier state home in 2024.

International migration into Monroe County almost squarely offset the number of domestic migrants leaving, resulting in little population change.

“Back in 2008, natural increase — or the difference between births and deaths — accounted for 77% of Indiana’s growth," said Kinghorn. "In 2024, by contrast, a net international migration of 30,852 residents accounted for 70% of the state’s growth.”
