“Back in 2008, natural increase — or the difference between births and deaths — accounted for 77% of Indiana’s growth," said Kinghorn. "In 2024, by contrast, a net international migration of 30,852 residents accounted for 70% of the state’s growth.”

International migration into Monroe County almost squarely offset the number of domestic migrants leaving, resulting in little population change.

Indiana added 44,144 residents last year, the most since 2008. An estimated 6.92 million people now live in the Hoosier State.
