Discovered in January 2023, A3 reached the closest point in its orbit to the Sun, known as perihelion, on Sept. 27, followed by its closest point to Earth on Oct. 12. The comet takes an estimated 80,000 years to complete a single orbit of the Sun .

Comet Tsuchinshan-Atlas (C/2023) is passing by Earth, and should be bright enough to see with the naked eye in the night sky.
