The Israel government and Hamas have agreed to a deal that will pause fighting in Gaza and lead to the phased release of hostages and Palestinian prisoners, a source briefed on the talks has told CNN.

With a cease-fire deal in Gaza now formally approved by both sides, it’s tempting to give in to a sense of euphoria after so much heartless brutality since October 7, 2023. But we should maintain a sense of sobriety.

After months of back and forth, Hamas and Israel appear to have reached a ceasefire deal. The agreement, which was mediated by Egypt, the US and Qatar, will be carried out in three phases. The World’s Shirin Jaafari speaks with host Marco Werman about the latest.
