L.A. radio legend Uncle Joe Benson has died at the age of 76. Known for a deep, rumbling voice and wide knowledge of rock music, Benson spent more than 30 years at 95.5 KLOS.

He sang and co-wrote some of the definitive teenage anthems of the 1950s and early ’60s, including “Breaking Up Is Hard to Do,” and then reinvented his career in the ’70s.
