Hurricane Francine was weakening Wednesday evening as it moved across Louisiana after making landfall in the state's southern parish of Terrebonne a few hours earlier as a Category 2 storm.

Though Tropical Storm Francine's projected path shows it will likely miss Houston, local agencies are still preparing for the potential arrival of severe weather. As of Tuesday morning, the storm was still gaining strength in the Gulf of Mexico as it headed toward the coast of Louisiana,

Texas isn’t expected to take a direct hit when the storm makes landfall as a hurricane. But storm surge and dangerous winds are possible.
