There is now a likely chance for tropical cyclone development in the Gulf of Mexico by early next week. Forecast models trends are leaning towards either a tropical or subtropical cyclone developing anytime between Saturday evening - Monday.

The chance of tropical development in the Gulf of Mexico continues to increase. The National Hurricane Center says there is a 70% chance of a named storm forming over the next 7 days. The next named storm will be Milton. There's a good chance that a tropical depression or Tropical Storm Milton forms late this weekend or early next week.

A cold front is forecast to move south into the Gulf on Tuesday, this will steer the system toward the east-northeast in the direction of Florida by mid week. By the weekend, signs are showing likelier formation of at least a tropical depression or storm but staying far enough south of Louisiana in the Gulf of Mexico that its effects will be mostly realized over Florida.
