A circle of fate is in the making in Maharashtra as the state is once again witnessing a 2022 political event in which then front runner for chief minister post and former CM Devendra Fadnavis agreed to become deputy to his ally Shiv Sena's Eknath Shinde.

Eknath Shinde called PM Modi the head of the family. He said the BJP leadership mustn't consider him an obstacle in government formation.

Shinde's climb down has cleared the way for Devendra Fadnavis, who is still the frontrunner for the post of Maharashtra Chief Minister.

Eknath Shinde on Wednesday dropped enough hints to suggest the return of BJP chief minister in Maharashtra as he announced that his party Shiv Sena will support any candidate decided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah as the next leader of the Mahayuti.

Amid suspense over the state's next chief minister, a press briefing of Eknath Shinde is expected to take place shortly.

Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar on Tuesday said that Eknath Shinde is likely to resign after the current assembly term ends today. He said that Shinde will be asked to continue as the caretaker CM of Maharashtra till the new CM takes oath.
