As of 9 a.m. on Oct. 8, more than 59,000 Duke Energy customers in Buncombe County were still without power, a significant decrease from the 149,000 without power immediately following Tropical Storm Helene. That number dropped to less than 46,000 by 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9.

Duke Energy expects to take at least four more days to restore electricity to many of its customers in Florida after Hurricane Milton caused power outages across the state, the U.S. utility firm said on Friday.

Nearly two million Floridians are without power after Hurricane Milton hit the Sunshine State late Wednesday less than two weeks since Hurricane Helene 's devastation. Over 1.901 million outages have been reported in Florida as of 11 p.m. ET Wednesday, according to the USA TODAY power outage tracker.
