A power cable connecting Finland and Estonia under the Baltic Sea suffered a power outage on Wednesday, prompting an investigation.

Sweden has sharply criticised China for refusing to allow the Nordic country’s main investigator on board a Chinese vessel suspected of severing two cables in the Baltic Sea. The Yi Peng 3 sailed away from its mooring in international waters between Denmark and Sweden on Saturday,

China said on Monday it had provided information and documents for an open investigation into the severing of two Baltic Sea undersea cables, though it and Sweden disagreed over how transparent Beijing had been in the case.

Finland is investigating the possible Christmas Day “sabotage” of an undersea power cable linking the country with Estonia under the Baltic Sea.

A Chinese ship linked to the recent severing of two undersea cables and anchored off Denmark's coast since November 19, departed Saturday, Sweden's coast guard said.

The Chinese authorities have provided investigators with information and documents regarding the cutting of telecommunications cables in the Baltic Sea, Beijing's Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Monday.
