The Washington Capitals have reunited with veteran center Lars Eller. Washington has sent a 2025 fifth-round pick and a 2027 third-round pick to Pittsburgh for Eller, who spent seven seasons with the Capitals and helped the club win the franchise’s first Stanley Cup in 2018.

The floundering Pittsburgh Penguins have made their first trade of what could eventually be many in the 2024-25 NHL season. They’ve sent forward Lars Eller to the Washington Capitals, and in return are receiving a 2027 third-round draft pick and a 2025 fifth-round draft pick (originally belonging to Chicago).

The Washington Capitals traded a 2027 third-round pick and a 2025 fifth-round pick to the rival Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for forward Lars Eller, the team announced on Tuesday.
