Gov. Hochul inched toward a statewide ban on smartphones in schools, launching a “listening tour” across New York to hear from teachers and parents.

ALBANY — New York is considering a statewide policy to limit the use of cellphones in schools beginning sometime in the next year as distractions for students continue increasing, Gov. Kathy Hochul said Monday.

Hochul still isn’t delving into specifics over what a potential ban would look like, but she says a district by district approach isn’t working.
