Like every car manufacturer in the early 2020s, Porsche revealed ambitious EV plans. Porsche was taking its best-selling car, the Macan, all-electric. The next-generation 718 sports car was going all-electric.

Richardson: Cadillacs do feature plenty of analog-style switches and buttons, like the Porsche, and active sport suspension is a $950 option. But at 235 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque from its turbocharged four-cylinder, the XT4 is slightly less powerful than the Lincoln. Just sayin’.

Porsche is committed to electrified SUVs. Really is. It makes no apologies for filling the Macan exclusively with volts. And yet, it might be filling an entirely new SUV with a series of expertly controlled explosions. That’s right, the Cayenne and Macan might be getting a naughty new sibling. Naughty because… well, combustion, right?

Afterwards, Porsche will stick to its plan to sell the Macan purely as an electric SUV. But that leaves a gap in the brand’s line-up for a mid-sized SUV running combustion engines, and today Porsche CEO Oliver Blume announced a new model to fill that hole.

Porsche will continue producing gas and hybrid cars alongside EVs well into the 2030s, and a new one arrives this year.
