Mercedes-Benz is hedging its bets with rebooted CLA sedan
Mercedes is also bucking the traditional method of introducing a new platform as an ICE vehicle and then wedging the design into an EV platform. Instead, the company is going “EV first,” launching the CLA as an EV first and then later as an internal combustion with a mild hybrid in 2026.
First look: 2026 Mercedes-Benz CLA EV, hybrid split the bill
The 2026 CLA—both electric and hybrid models—get lots of stars in their visual language in this generation. With a more pronounced wedge in its stance, the CLA EV wears 142 tiny three-pointed stars on its face, a big lighted one front and center, and more in the headlights and taillights.
2026 Mercedes CLA-Class: A 500-Mile EV Plus A Hybrid, Too
The CLA 250+ will be the base model at launch, with 268 horsepower and 247 pound-feet of torque and an estimated 0 to 60 mph time of 6.6 seconds. The 349 hp and 380 lb-ft CLA 350 4Matic cuts the sprint time to 4.8 seconds, but both variants are electronically limited to 130 mph.
