The Washington attorney general claims in a new lawsuit that the sheriff in Adams County has been breaking state law by helping federal immigration officers round up undocumented residents.

Passed in 2019, the Keep Washington Working Act restricts the ability of local police to participate in the enforcement of federal immigration law.

The law remains blocked for now. It was not immediately clear whether the dismissal request signaled a broader shift on state-level immigration enforcement.
