Richmond General Registrar Keith Balmer resigned from his position Wednesday amid a closed meeting of the city’s electoral board, The Richmonder reported. The board met to discuss investigations that revealed multiple violations of city policy and misuse of public funds.

The Richmond Electoral Board voted unanimously to accept Balmer's resignation after discussing the inspector general report in closed session for more than three hours on Wednesday.

Registrar Keith Balmer resigned a week after an investigation showed that he and his office wasted thousands of dollars, violated city policies and abused its authority.
