At least six people have died and more than 180,000 have been forced to evacuate as the Palisades, Eaton and Hurst fires burn tens of thousands of acres.

A pair of massive wildfires menacing Los Angeles from the east and west were still burning unchecked early on Thursday, two days after they ignited, but firefighting crews made progress overnight in controlling a smaller blaze burning in the hills overlooking Hollywood Boulevard.

Major fires have killed five people, ravaged communities from the Pacific Coast to Pasadena, and sent thousands of people frantically fleeing their homes.

Palisades Fire initially started 10:30 a.m. Jan. 7 in Los Angeles County. It has burned 2,925 acres after being active for 23 hours. By Wednesday morning, the fire crew has managed to contain none of the blaze. However, the cause is still being investigated.
