You’ll note the title of this review refers to the ‘Porsche Macan EV’. In truth, this car is just the ‘Macan’ – a clean-sheet new SUV intended to replace the long-serving combustion car. However, the market’s less-than-ravenous appetite for EVs has forced a rethink.

The Macan 4S uses the same front motor as the Macan 4, but with a beefier rear motor, producing a net 509 horsepower and 604 pound-feet. The rear-drive base Macan EV is estimated to reach 60 in 5.4 seconds and top out at 137 mph. The 4S, on the other hand, should see 60 in 3.9 seconds before petering out at 149 mph.

The entry-level Macan EV may not have electrifying performance, but the third-up-the-ladder 4S trim picks up plenty of speed.
