South Korea's LG Energy Solution on Friday said its subsidiary LG Energy Solution Arizona has signed a battery supply agreement with U.S.-based automotive manufacturer Rivian .

The cell is called “4695” due to its diameter of 46 millimeters and height of 95 millimeters — larger than Tesla’s 4680 cells. The battery packs that Rivian uses currently in its R1T and R1S vehicles are assembled at its Normal,

LG Energy Solution announced on Friday that it will supply Rivian with cylindrical-shaped battery cells for use in the R2 electric compact crossover that Rivian previewed in March. The battery cells, which Rivian previously announced will feature a 4695 format (46-millimeter diameter and 95-mm height), will be supplied by a plant in Arizona.
