Janne Puhakka, a 29-year-old who made history as Finland’s first out gay professional ice hockey player, was shot to death in the home he had shared with his Norwegian veterinarian partner, 66-year-old Rolf Nordmo.

The boyfriend of Finland’s first openly gay pro hockey player allegedly confessed to gunning down his much younger beau with a hunting rifle over the weekend — just weeks after they called it quits on their relationship.

Police on Monday reported that a roughly 30-year-old man was killed in a private residence in Espoo on Sunday. News outlets have identified the victim as Janne Puhakka, 29, the first openly gay player in the top-tier hockey league in Finland,

Earlier on Tuesday it was reported by Ilta-Sanomat that Janne Puhakka, Finland's first openly gay ice hockey player, was found dead by a gunshot in his native country.

According to Finland media, Puhakka’s case is being treated as a murder with a 65-year-old suspect detained on the scene on suspicion of shooting the athlete to death. Ilta-Sanomat reported that Nordmo, 65, is the suspect, but police have not confirmed the suspect’s identity.

Puhakka, who spent two years with the QMJHL's Chicoutimi Sagueneens, was found shot to death in his home on Sunday night. He was 29.

Janne Puhakka, who recently starred on the Finnish version of Peacock’s “The Traitors,” was allegedly shot by his partner after breaking up with him.

The former partner of gay ex-professional ice-hockey player Janne Puhakka has confessed to killing him, media in Finland has reported.
