Jaccob Slavin scored his first career playoff overtime goal early in the extra period to give the Hurricanes an important road win to open their second-round playoff series against the Capitals.

After the Hurricanes were 30th in the NHL in hits per 60 minutes during the regular season (17.15), they have more than doubled that with an average of 34.53 in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. That’s actually more than the Capitals, who have averaged 31.35 this postseason.

Jaccob Slavin scored in overtime, one of 33 shots from a dominant Carolina effort, and the Hurricanes topped the Washington Capitals 2-1 in Game 1 of their second-round playoff series on Tuesday, the club's second straight playoff win beyond regulation.
