Three major wildfires continued to burn in southern California on Wednesday, but cooling temperatures offered firefighters some hope for relief after a triple-digit heatwave had blanketed the region for several days.

A new wildfire was reported today at 2:51 p.m. in San Diego County, California. Oak 11 Fire has been burning on private land. At this time, the cause of the fire remains undetermined.

September 10, 2024 (San Diego) – Several major wildfires have burned tens of thousand of acres, collectively threatening thousands of homes across southern California including San Bernadino, Riverside, Orange and Los Angeles Counties.

"In San Diego County, the smoke that people are smelling or seeing, is coming from the Orange County Airport fire," said Alex Tardy, meteorologist with the National Weather Service. "That fire has pretty much climbed over the Santa Ana Mountains and is now trying to go down the backside of the mountains, which actually is Riverside County."

Three major wildfires burning in multiple counties across Southern California have led to poor air quality as a smoke advisory is extended — warning of potentially "hazardous" breathing conditions Wednesday.
